Headteacher's Welcome

A very warm welcome to the Cromwell Academy website

I would like to start by expressing how proud I am to be the Headteacher of such a vibrant, enthusiastic and motivated community of pupils and staff and I am very happy to welcome and encourage anyone who wishes to visit.

Cromwell Academy provides 21st Century educational provision for all of its children, with many ground-breaking technologies incorporated into the building; from state of the art computer facilities, to rainwater recycling and the use of solar energy.

Our building is designed to cater for a single form entry, for children aged 4 – 11 years.  We have seven classrooms within the main building, as well as a modern outdoor mobile classroom, a sensory room, a dedicated learning support room,  a curriculum enrichment room and a well-equipped hall with kitchen.  Each pair of classrooms within the main building has a cloakroom area with toilets.

The building also benefits from a community room with indoor and outdoor space for learning and play.  This is home to our Cromwell Academy Kids Club for children aged 4 – 11 years, where we offer excellent before and after school term-time care.

Our outside area provides a large playground, a playing field with trim trail, an outdoor classroom, a Wildlife Haven and a willow dome.  Furthermore, there are also designated outdoor play areas for our Reception and Key Stage 1 children. In addition to our own outdoor learning areas, we are fortunate to be located next door to Hinchingbrooke Country Park; an impressive extension to our outdoor classroom that enables us to take our "Forest School" learning to a whole new level!

The premises, however, is only one part of who we are!  Our school can only be successful because of the people who work within it and alongside us – the staff, the governors, the parents/carers and most importantly, the children.

Throughout their journey with us, we aim to provide our children with an innovative, creative and enhanced education with a focus on developing the "whole child".  This means developing a positive, caring and friendly environment in which children feel safe and where each child can work towards maximising their potential in personal, social and academic achievement.  We create an atmosphere based on mutual respect, where adults lead by example and all our children are valued and value each other. Pupils' "learning skills" are continually developed with an emphasis on readiness, resilience, reflection, independence and curiosity.

We are an academy where each member of the school community is encouraged to achieve high standards and is committed to achieving the very best they can.  We set, expect and achieve a high level of academic performance and support all children to achieve this.

We highly value all curriculum areas, including the arts, sciences, creativity, IT and humanities, recognising individual strengths and talents so that we can build on these to motivate and encourage our pupils to be the best they can be. We enhance this provision by offering a wide range of extra-curricular provision, school performances, competitions and awards that recognise talents and achievements in all areas. This helps to enrich the lives of all children, from all backgrounds and enables them to dream, believe, and achieve.

We strive to maintain strong links with our local community.  Our dedicated community room is a well utilised facility and we offer a range of community events and family liaison opportunities for parents/carers and the wider community.

Being part of the ACES Academies Trust, we are delighted to have such strong links with the local secondary school, Hinchingbrooke School. Just a stones throw away, this partnership provides excellent access to additional resources, facilities and opens up opportunities for shared practice across schools, supporting highly effective transition between primary and secondary education.

Fundamental to the learning of any child is the relationship between home and school, with the child always at the centre.  I hope that by working together towards a shared vision we will lead our children to optimum success and achievement in their life-long learning journey.

Thank you for taking the time to visit and we very much look forward to working with you.
